Buy Vitalli Japanese oats 20 kg?

Vitalli is the new variety of Japanese oat (Avena strigosa) bred by DLF.

Japanese oat is known as a poor host plant for the nematode Pratylenchus penetrans, also known as the root lesion nematode. Many crops (carrots, lilies, tulips, strawberries, potatoes, etc.) can suffer damage with the presence of this nematode in the soil. The use of Japanese Oats as a green manure crop has an equivalent effect to fallow land. On average, the breakdown of root lesion nematode when grown successfully is 50 - 70%.

Vitalli has very rapid initial development and very good soil coverage, giving weeds little chance. Vitalli's dry matter yield is very high and makes a high contribution to the organic matter content. This counteracts any leaching of nitrogen into the soil. Good rooting also improves soil structure.

Cultivation advice:

  • Sowing time: April - September
  • Sowing depth: 1 - 2 cm
  • Starting amount N: 60 - 65 kg/ha
  • Soil type: suitable for all soils
  • For early sowing: incorporation after 10 - 12 weeks

Seed amount:

  • As organic matter supplier only: 40 - 60 kg/ha
  • Against nematodes: 60 - 80 kg/ha.

Vital Earth green manures, the benefits:

  • Supplying extra organic matter: a successful green manure fertiliser quickly produces 900 kg of effective organic matter per ha. Some even more
  • Nitrogen fixation: a successful green manure crop will fix as much as 80-100 kg N per ha.
  • Improved soil structure: more intensive rooting of the soil surface improves soil permeability
  • Direct coverage of the soil, so less slurry and erosion
  • Weed suppression: weeds are suppressed by a faster start-up
  • Control of nematodes and soil diseases by smart use of green manures
  • Improving biodiversity.
