Types of flower seeds

We offer an extensive range with many types of flower seeds to choose from. Choose from our many flower mixtures.

Flower mixtures

These mixtures consist of carefully composed combinations of different flower species. They offer varied and harmonious blooms, often tailored to specific purposes, such as attracting pollinating insects or creating colourful borders. Flower mixtures are ideal for anyone who wants a simple and diverse flower garden without selecting individual seeds.

Wildflower seeds

Bring the natural splendour of wildflowers into your garden with our wildflower seeds. These flowers not only add colour and vibrancy, but also attract crucial pollinating insects such as butterflies, bees and bumblebees. At a time when insect and wildflower populations are steadily declining, sowing wildflowers takes on greater significance. They thrive in a variety of environments and often require less maintenance. Ideal for creating an informal wild garden environment along borders, roadside verges or unused areas of land. By deliberately dedicating parts of your garden to wildflowers, you contribute to increasing biodiversity and attracting pollinating insects. Discover the charm of wildflowers and browse our collection of wildflower seeds for inspiration.

Native flower seeds

When to sow flowers?

The optimal time for sowing flowers depends on the type of seed and the longevity of the flower. Here is a brief overview:

Sowing annual flowers

Annual flower seeds germinate quickly and soon grow into mature plants. To fully enjoy colourful flower carpets, it is advisable to sow these seeds early in spring, preferably from April to early May. Do pay attention to weather conditions; frost-sensitive annuals require a frost-free period.

Sowing perennial flowers

Perennial flower seeds thrive best when sown in spring or summer. In their first year of life, they develop strong roots and leaves, while they do not produce flowers until the second year. These flowers keep returning for about three years.

The ideal months for sowing vary by flower type and region. In general, March to May are suitable for many annual flower seeds, while perennial flowers are often best sown in May or June. For detailed information per flower type, please refer to our specific sowing instructions in the flower seed sowing calendar. Make the most of the coming months and create a blooming garden full of splendour and colour.

Which flower seeds grow fastest?

Annual flowers grow fastest The average time before you get visible results is only two to three weeks. The nice thing about wild flowers like poppies, cornflowers and incarnate clover is that you can sow them both early in spring and during summer. The flower seeds mentioned above are native. They are used to colder temperatures. In mild winters, they will hold up fine, resulting in their reappearance in the border next spring.

There are also perennial flowers that grow quickly, such as the passion fruit. Once sown, this tropical climbing plant will soon give your garden a Mediterranean feel. Perennials like Carpathian bellflowers are also known for their quick emergence. This ground cover is a faithful species in rock gardens.

How to sow flowers?

A colourful flower meadow starts with the soil, the basis for a beautiful carpet of flowers. Flowers are generally undemanding when it comes to soil quality and thrive in nutrient-poor soil. Sandy, loamy or even clay soils, although a little more laborious, are all suitable. Prepare the soil by loosening it and clearing it of weeds. Then scatter the flower seeds, either directly from your hand for a natural look, or with a seeder for a more orderly garden. Remember to sow the seeds thinly, with an average density of one to two grams per square metre. You can sow the seeds at different times for a longer flowering period.

Important to know: flower seeds need oxygen, moisture and heat to germinate properly. Therefore, don't sow the seeds too deep: a simple rule of thumb is twice the size of the seed. For example, if the flower seed is half a centimetre in size, sow it one and a half centimetres deep.

Storing flower seeds

Store flower seeds in a cool, dry and dark place to maintain optimum germination. For example, place them in airtight containers or envelopes to keep out moisture and light. The shelf life of flower seeds varies by flower variety. In general, most seeds retain their germination for one to five years. Check the specific recommendations for each flower variety, as some seeds have a longer shelf life than others.

Tip: To test germination, you can germinate a few seeds from time to time. Place them between damp paper in a sealed plastic bag and observe if germination is occurring. If the seeds are still germinating well, they are probably still viable.
